Good Earth Lighting GL6543-BK-GLI Lincoln Park Torchiere with Opal Glass Diffuser Review
I bought the Earth Lighting GL6543-BK-GLI Lincoln Park Torchiere with Opal Glass Diffuser about a month ago. Although I was skeptical about buying the product after reading some of the reviews here; the price was too good to be resisted.

I was half expecting some of things to arrive broken or in bad state but I was quite impressed with how meticulously all the components were packaged. I had also read a lot of comments about the bad threading on the components and how that makes it difficult to put the lamp together. However, I guess I was one of the lucky customers who got the product without any conspicuous defects. It took me all of 20 minutes to assemble the lamp and put it up in my living room.
The very first thing that I noticed was the white light which was poles apart from the yellow halogen light that I was using earlier. For some reason this felt cooler while being equally bright. My family and I were happy that we could have a well illuminated living room without worrying too much about the halogen light overheating, which can be quite risky to say the least.
The base of the lamp was sturdy enough for it to be placed on the corner of the room or near the staircase without being overtly concerned about it tripping over. I also liked the chic contrast created by the black pole and the white diffuser. The effect is aesthetically pleasing while being easy on the pocket; plus, the fluorescent light helped me save on my energy bills.
Let's take a look at features of Good Earth Lighting GL6543-BK-GLI Lincoln Park Torchiere with Opal Glass Diffuser:
- Bright, ambient lighting at an affordable price
- Dimmable control helps set the mood
- Energy-efficient fluorescent bulb lasts 10,000 hours
- 2 available colors to match your decor
- 2-year limited warranty
While I was pleased with the fact that the lamp came with a dimmer; it was made of plastic so it was obvious that it would not last as long as I would like it to unless I was really careful with it. However, since we do not have young children in our household, I am not particularly concerned about anybody fooling around with the dimmer which also doubles up as the on/off switch. What I did like though is the placement of the knob which is low enough so I can conveniently reach it even when seated on the couch.
If you want to buy this floor lamp, I highly recommend you buy them through Amazon here. You won’t find them cheaper anywhere else.
The only thing that I did not like about the product is the time it takes for the bulb to warm up. When you switch on the lamp, the light is quite dull and it easily takes 3to 4 minutes before you can get the bulb to work at full capacity. This means that if you are using the lamp is your sole source of lighting in a room, you will need to wait for a full 3 minutes before you can actually get to work in the area. However, if the lamp is an auxiliary source of light to back up your regular ceiling lights, you should have no problem.
The lamp is easy to clean and maintain and works wonderfully if you need a bright night lamp in the living room. As a matter of fact, I am happy enough with the product's performance to order another one for the bedroom. If you are looking for a basic lamp without a lot of frills but which is easy to assemble, inexpensive and does what it is meant to do, then this will be the right choice for you.
Let me show you what current owners have to say about it.
S. Brenman "cat lover",
Economical, attractive, bright light.,
This wonderful lamp has provided light for almost 500 square feet of space. The light from the enclosed bulb is pleasant enough for me, and I have yet to try the other bulb I purchased. The dimmer works. The lamp base is heavy and the lamp is stable enough to resist the occasional push from me in pursuit of an uncooperative cat. The style is pleasantly contemporary and unobtrusive.
How to Choose a Floor Lamp
Lighting is an essential feature to design and décor; depending on the room you need to illuminate, the adequate amount and type of lighting needed can vary immensely. In most cases, lighting that is installed in the initial building of a home or office will not be flexible enough, which is why additional lighting such as floor lamps are purchased and implemented to help lighten up a space. The most important things to consider when choosing a floor lamp is your personal budget, your style of décor and how much light and/or flexibility is needed from your intended purchase.
There are many styles of floor lamps to choose from such as the popular torchiere floor lamp with a slim base and flared shade. The majority of these lamps come with a halogen light which are acknowledged for being energy efficient and generally a very favorable source of light.
Some floor lamps including the one just mentioned, come with an adjoining reading light as a bonus feature. So if you are an avid reader or your work consists of lots of research (both on and offline), it would probably be appreciated to have that extra reading light feature. Furthermore, a floor lamp with a so-called 'goose-neck' enables those using it to maneuver the head of the light in the desired position. In any case, this can become extremely beneficial for different activities - reading, watching television or taking part in crafts.
The atmosphere that a floor lamp can create is often reason enough to bring them into your home interiors. Also, the type of lamp can enhance the style - whether it be contemporary with a colourful floor lamp baring numerous up-lights or a more tranquil environment produced with the soft light of a Japanese kabuki lamp. The shade itself can be chosen to fit into your interior decorating style and to compliment your existing décor - think about round, square or flared lampshades. There is also the choice of materials, which too can contrast or compliment your existing décor style. For a traditionally dressed room you might prefer a floor lamp with a pleated cloth shade and wooden base; contemporary interiors will look amazing with the addition of a sleek brushed nickel or black metal base.
Never forget that you need to a set a budget before browsing the limitless amount of floor lamps on offer. You could be looking for the cheapest available which may cost around $30, or at the other end of the scale you might be prepared to pay into the hundreds. Don't be fooled by the cost though - even those that are very cost-friendly can have a positive impact on the beauty of a room as well as the functional advantage of increasing light source.
When choosing a floor lamp, first think of your personal budget, what you need the light for and what style of lamp will meet your needs best. With the selection decreased a little through these choices, you can then look for those that you find most visually attractive and those that will best compliment your individual decorating style.
